RAID data recovery: levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and complex configurations

Every RAID level presents its own challenges. RAID 0, with no redundancy, requires recovery from all disks at once. RAID 1 lets us work on the surviving disk when its mirror fails. RAID 5 tolerates the loss of a single disk, but becomes critical if a second drive degrades during a rebuild. RAID 6 offers double parity and greater resilience, while RAID 10 combines mirroring and striping.

Business NAS units use specific file systems and volume managers, such as Btrfs and ext4 on Synology, or ZFS and proprietary volumes on QNAP. Recovering data from these systems means correctly interpreting the software structure as well as the physical condition of the disks.
